The Moorish town of Cantoria is situated just 7 km's
north-west of Albox, and approximately 383m above sea
level. This charming town is known as “The Pearl”
of the Almanzora Valley. Cantoria is an ideal place
for walkers and country lovers alike with it´s
pine covered red rock hills which surround the village
and the superb views and landscapes.
This ancient town founded in 1830 has many places of
historical interest, including the Church built in 1871
with its two towers heading skywards. The town is easily
negotiated on foot or for the fitter among us, by bicycle.
Cantoria offers a wide range of amenities including
its Town Hall, post office, shops, banks, bars and restaurants.
The Sports Centre includes a basket ball court, a football
pitch and a public pool.
Cantoria offers plenty of entertainment for families
and children during the summer months, including the
Fiesta of Summer celebrated for the whole of the first
weekend in August. There is music and dancing, adult
entertainment and plenty for the children to do. During
January there is a Fiesta of Fireworks which also lasts
the whole weekend, although during the evenings this
is not suitable for children.
Cantoria also has schools for children of all ages
and a 24 hour medical centre, it also boasts its own
theatre built in 1926. The local market, where you can
buy local produce, is held every Wednesday morning.
